If you or someone you care for is living with a disability, you may be eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS provides funding for supports and services that help people achieve their goals, live more independently, and improve quality of life.
But how do you actually sign up for the NDIS? Below, we’ll walk you through the process step by step.
Who Can Apply for the NDIS?
Before you sign up, check that you meet the NDIS eligibility criteria. You may be eligible if you:
- Are under 65 years old when you apply
- Are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category visa holder
- Have a permanent or significant disability that impacts your daily life
- Need ongoing support to participate in activities, work, or the community

Step 1: Call the NDIS or Get an Access Request Form
The first step to signing up for the NDIS is to make an Access Request. You can do this by:
- Calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110
- Asking for an Access Request Form (ARF)
- Visiting your nearest NDIS or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) office

- Reports that explain how your disability impacts your daily life
💡 Tip: The more detailed your evidence, the smoother the process will be.

Step 3: Submit Your Access Request
Once you’ve completed your Access Request Form and attached the required documents, submit it to the NDIS.
You can send it back via:
